Made in collaboration with our friends up the road at Ambush Candle Co. in Traverse City, Michigan. This thoughtfully crafted candle features 100% soy wax, a crackling wood wick for a cleaner, cozier burn, and pure cedarwood essential oil—sustainably distilled from old furniture shavings. Talk about full circle.
Features:
Wooden wicks are an excellent way to add some extra aesthetic to your candle burning experience. They’re a cleaner burn than a cotton wick, and typically more sustainable, coming from FSC- certified mills. While wood wicks may be temperamental at times, here are a few key tips to ensure you get the most out of every burn.
Why won’t my wooden wick light or stay lit?
The flame draws the wax up through the wick, so if the wick is too long, the wax cannot make it to the flame and you may find your candle goes out continuously. Should this happen, trim the wick, cleaning off any charred or flakey bits and re-light. For optimal burn, keep your wood wick trimmed to about ⅛”.
If your wick is too short, it may cause the wax to flood over the flame and put out your candle. This can be fixed by scraping out some of the wax to ensure that about ⅛” of wick is exposed. Liquid wax can also be carefully soaked out using a paper towel (use caution around melted wax).
How to light a wooden wick candle?
When lighting a wood wick candle, the best technique is to tilt it on an angle and let the flame draw across the length of the wick (kind of like how you tilt a match after lighting). It may take a couple of tries to get it lit! The heat from the flame needs to draw the wax through the wick before it will really start burning nicely. When in doubt, give it another try – once you get it going the first time, it should light up more easily for future burns.
Eco-friendly:
Soy wax is derived from soybeans, which are a renewable and sustainable resource. Unlike paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum, soy wax is biodegradable and does not contribute to the depletion of fossil fuels.
Clean-burning:
Soy wax burns cleaner than paraffin wax, emitting fewer toxins and pollutants into the air. It produces little to no black soot, which can help maintain cleaner air quality in your home.
Longer burning time:
Soy wax candles tend to burn slower and last longer than paraffin candles of the same size. This means you can enjoy your soy wax candle for a more extended period before needing to replace it.
Easy cleanup:
Spills and drips from soy wax candles can be cleaned up easily with soap and water. Since soy wax is water-soluble, it is simpler to remove than paraffin wax.
Better scent throw:
Soy wax has excellent scent-holding qualities, allowing it to hold and release fragrance oils effectively. This results in a stronger and more consistent scent throw throughout the candle’s lifespan.
Non-toxic and hypoallergenic:
Soy wax is a natural, plant-based material and does not release harmful chemicals or irritants when burned. It is an ideal choice for individuals with allergies or sensitivities to synthetic fragrances.
Supports farmers:
Soybeans are primarily grown by farmers, and choosing soy wax supports the agricultural industry. Additionally, soy wax is often sourced locally, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
