SUMMARY:The 2nd Annual Beryl Days
DESCRIPTION:‘Beryl Days’ (Beryl (pronounced “barrel” – yes\, like a barrelling wave!) is a weekend-long\, freshwater festival rooted in joy\, community\, and caring for what you love. \nThis grassroots event merges surf\, stewardship\, music\, and play to cultivate a culture of connection — to the Lakes\, and to one another. From comps to cleanups\, live music to laughter\, Beryl Days is a solstice shindig not to miss ~ Join us! \n \nHere’s the full weekend breakdown!  \n \n6:00pm @ Empire Public Beach Lighthouse \n A simple gathering on the water to arrive together\, foster unity\, honor the Lake\, and kick off the weekend with intention & connection. We’ll paddle out\, take a breath\, and let the lake hold us for a moment in community before the festivities begin. \nMeet at the Empire Public Beach Lighthouse at 6:00pm to prep your gear – we’ll paddle out together at 6:30pm – all human-powered watercraft are so very welcome! Don’t forget your leashes\, PFDs etc! \n \n \n~7:30pm onward through the evening \nA long-standing tradition of gathering on the wall at the Empire Public Beach Lighthouse for a classic tailgate with friends new & old. Bring a beverage\, munchies\, or dish to pass! This is a casual community potluck – don’t feel pressure to bring anything if it’s a push – the most important is showing up yourself! \nJoin us Friday nights through the summer for this weekly event. But don’t miss this one – as it’s a little extra special. \n \n11:00 am – 12:00 pm (Registration at 10:30am) @ the Lighthouse \nA silly-high-vibe\, extremely ridiculous\, laughter-inducing bracket-style relay race!  This event is designed for the child at heart & is open to all ages.  \n1 sack  / 2 crawl / 3 paddle / 4 sprint / 5 swim \nWe recommend teams of five although you could partake with less\, doubling up on segments of the race.  \nWear attire that can get wet! This is\, of course\, a Sleeping Bear Surf event! (And bring dry clothes to boogie in later!) \n \n \n12:30pm-1:30pm (Registration at 12:00pm) @ South Bar Lake \nA high-vibe\, low-key\, and equally super-duper-serious stone skipping competition to share in the simple and joyous art of bouncing rocks across water! \n\nYou will have five consecutive throws each\nThe participant with the highest number of skips in one throw wins\nThere will be a tie breaker if we do come to a tie\nSkips will be counted to the best of our abilities\n\nBYOS (Bring your own Stones!) \n2:00pm – 6:00pm @ the Shop \nSwap\, Sell\, Buy\, Upgrade… this is your moment. Got a pre-loved board collecting dust? A not-so-stinky wetsuit looking for another run? Maybe some fins\, a board bag\, or extra gear you’re ready to pass along? Bring it on out! \nWe’ll hook you up with a fancy shmancy price tag so you can name your price. Then\, set up just outside the shop on the green and get to swappin’\, sellin’\, or donatin’. This is a fully self-hosted-style swap — if your gear finds a new home\, you pocket the cash — unless you feel moved to donate to support the event & initiative!  \n \n \n2:00pm – 4:00pm @ the Shop Alley \nThe alley will be closed off\, swept down\, and ready for shred! Get ready for a throw down! This event is designed to let your creativity & classic fun rip wild on boards!  \nPig style games judged by the crowd (with support of our team) including a hippy jump\, slalom course\, quarter pipe… \nOpen to all ages & skill levels. Helmets highly encouraged.  \n4:00pm – 10:00pm @ the Shop Green! \nHot dog we are SO grateful to have such wildly-talented friends!  \nStick around\, come out\, or come back for an insanely mesmerizing\, majorly-magical musical masterpiece as we experience four different & perfectly paired Michigan bands. We can’t wait to share them with you! \nWe’ll be kickin’ off the evening with local legend & finger pickin’ hound\, Patrick Niemisto\, followed by the soul-filled song of I.Am.James. Next up we’ll sway & groove to the surfy sounds of The Skinny Limbs\, and boogie on down to The Go Rounds til we can’t boogie no mo’! \n \n \n \n \n9:00am @ the Empire Public Beach Lighthouse  \nWind down & refresh with a gentle morning yoga practice at the water’s edge guided by the sweet Jess Shelton of Sleeping Bear Yoga.  \nIf weather allows\, class will be held on the shores of Lake Michigan – but if too windy\, across the parking lot at South Bar Lake. \n \n \n10:30am @ the Empire Public Beach Lighthouse  \nIn the spirit of protecting what you love\, a beach cleanup is an incredible\, hands-on way of doing just that\, and giving back to this superbly special place.  \nWe’ll have all necessary bags or buckets unless you wish to bring your own! We will have disposable gloves\, therefore if you wish to avoid creating more trash we encourage you to bring your own! Hand sanitizer & a slew of grabbers will also be provided. \n11:30am @ the Empire Public Beach Lighthouse \nAs we began\, here shall we end ~ together\, in the water. \nJoin us for a community plunge to round out the weekend. Saunas by Sleeping Bear Saunas  will be hot & ready upon your exit from the lake\, and maybe even some caffeine & goodies\, too!  \n“You never regret a swim!” ~ Wise words by Mama Beryl \n \n \nSpend the whole weekend with us and bunk up with our buddies at Lively Acres! Sweet spots for a Tent\, Van\, Camper\, or RV\, Rustic Cabins for rent\, and the Neighborfood Market right on site!   \nUse “Beryl” at checkout for 20% off your stay Friday & Saturday!  \n \n \nIf you feel moved to donate\, you’re not only helping bring to life a silly-fun event\, but you’re also supporting The Beryl Initiative — expanding access to surf and freshwater fun across the Great Lakes. Your support powers programming rooted in joy\, water safety\, and environmental stewardship from scholarships to our Jr. Waterman Camps\, surf lessons & clubs\, to free community events like our full moon paddles\, the paddle-with-purpose series\, beach cleanups\, and more.  \nThank you for supporting Beryl’s message & mission.  \nMay we all live a little more like Beryl – with care & joy front and center. \n \nSuper-duper fun exclusive Beryl Days swag coming soon! \n \nBig gratitude to Beth Price Photography and Liam Kaiser Creative for capturing imagery of the first inaugural Beryl Days – showcased here! And to Nate Knoth\, of The Skinny Limbs(!) for the 2025 Beryl Days Artwork & Poster!

SUMMARY:Paddle with Purpose: A Platte River Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Introducing our Paddle with Purpose series – a paddle and pickup on the water! We started our season pickin’ up the Platte\, and we’re ending the season with a pickup on the Platte!\n\n\nJoin The Cleanup Club and Sleeping Bear Surf for a cleanup on the Platte River amidst the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore\, as we work together to protect our Great Lakes from plastic pollution!\n\n\nEvery year 22+ million pounds of plastic pollution enters our Great Lakes\, with an estimated 11 million of that ending up in Lake Michigan. Woah. With thousands upon thousands of visitors to the Platte River each summer\, many of whom indulge in on the water fiesta\, the plastic pollution amidst the park is in desperate need of attention after such high-traffic this summer season!\nAs the main artery amidst the lakeshore\, Platte River is home to a beautiful\, fragile ecosystem – inhabited by various fish species\, birds\, turtles\, and mammals. Plastic pollution is a threat to that vital ecosystem. Every item that winds up amidst that beautiful River is bound for the big lake and beyond. \nLet’s tackle the Platte and stop the stream of rubbish before it enters Lake Michigan and scattered all about.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nWHAT TO KNOW:\n1. Our goal is to cleanup the riverbed while having fun! \n2. Everyone & anyone is welcome – some paddling experience required. If you would rather not paddle\, come meet us at the Picnic area & then enjoy a cleanup along the bank or down at Platte Point! \n3. This will be a Point A to Point B paddle and therefore we encourage you to have a buddy meet you\, or we will help coordinate ride shares to ensure all are able to leave a car at our final destination or get a ride back to start upon our arrival! \n4. All cleanup materials will be provided \n5. All trash we collect will be weighed\, counted and categorized with the help of volunteers for Great Lakes plastic pollution research & advocacy efforts to help curb policy! \n  \n\n\nDate: Saturday\, September 14th from 10:00am to Noon \nLocation: The Platte River! Very rarely do we get to enjoy the bustling river in the summer months – so paddling this time of year\, particularly as the colors begin to pop and the population begins to dwindle. \n\nDrop your Gear: At Platte River Picnic Area Parking Lot across from Riverside Canoe Rental\nDrop your Vehicle: At the Platte Point Parking Area at the very end of Lake Michigan Rd. (~10 minute drive round trip)\nHitch a Ride: Back to Platte River Picnic Area Parking Lot – Jenny\, the Shop Rig\, will be making one trip to haul humans back from the Point at 9:50am.\n\nTime: Be ready to launch at the water’s edge by 9:55am \n\nWe recommend leaving a half hour prior\, or after\, to do car drops or pickups.\nThere will be a quick orientation and safety briefing before we enter the water.\nAnticipate two hours on the water : )\n\nWeather: Lookin’ good – nice and warm\, calm\, and just a tiddle cloudy! \n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\n\nNon-motorized watercraft of choice\n\nBoard / Kayak / Canoe\n\n\nPaddle\nLife jacket (for all paddlers)\nA SBD National Park Pass or bring a couple bucks for Lake Township to park at Platte Point Beach\, our final destination\nA buddy! Anything is always so much more swell with a friend in tow!\nA reusable water bottle so you can stay hydrated with provided water refills without the single-use plastic!\n\n\n\n\nSee you Saturday\, September 14th for an inspiring action on the water!

SUMMARY:August Full Moon Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Join us Monday\, August 19th for a magical night on the water under the big\, bright\, full moon ~ a tradition we our proud to continue to hold in honor of the Full Moon Paddle queen herself; our precious Mama\, Beryl; as she shines down on us from the stars ~  \nThe Sturgeon Moon is named after one of the oldest and most primitive fish species\, therefore some astrologers believe that this moon spiritually signifies strength and resilience. \nTonight\, August 19th\, we are taking a once-in-a-blue-m0on opportunity to enjoy the full moon in solitude and we are encouraging you all to do the same. <3  \nWhile we will not be hosting an in-person group paddle tonight\, we hope you will take our recommendations and set off on a quiet adventure\, or a paddle with some new friends! \nHere are two fun options for you! \n\nPaddle A: Point A to B Paddle *grab a buddy or make a friend & drop a car or a bike*: The Lower Platte River\n\nDrop your Gear: At Platte River Picnic Area Parking Lot across from Riverside Canoe Rental (Recommended time: 8:15pm)\nDrop your Vehicle: At the Platte Point Parking Area at the very end of Lake Michigan Rd. (~10 minute drive round trip)\nHitch a Ride: Back to Platte River Picnic Area Parking Lot\n\n\n\nThis will be a Point A to Point B paddle and therefore we encourage you to have a buddy meet you to leave a car at your final destination or get a ride back to start upon your arrival! \nTime: We recommend launching by 8:45pm to enjoy the colors of sunset from the water\, and to watch the moon rise over Loon Lake ~9:35pm & guide your way down the river toward Platte Point. Anticipate two hours on the water.  \n  \nPaddle B. Out and Back Paddle: An Inland Lake Near You!  \nThe wind is blowing from the North/northeast toward the southwest\,  The moon will be rising in East/SouthEast. \nFind an inland lake put-in spot on the map near you that allows you to paddle north\, into the wind which then you could drift back with the wind on your return. Always do the hard part first. The moon will start to rise over the horizon at 9:02pm\, but you likely won’t be able to see it from the water until it comes over the trees around ~9:35pm. We recommend getting on the water to watch the sunset\, and allowing yourself to paddle\, parooze\, and indulge in the wildlife\, lightning bugs\, peace & solace until the moon lights your way home. \nPro tip: Hug the northeast shoreline on your paddle up-wind \nGive us a call if you would like some support finding a protected paddle put-in near you as we would love to help curate a beautiful evening for you. \n\nWhat to know:\nThe sun sets on August 19th  at 8:43pm and the moon will begin to rise at 9:02pm – Often the moon won’t be visible from the water until ~30 minutes after moon-rise. Be patient\, and keep looking southeast : ) \n  \nWhat to Bring:  \n\nNon-motorized watercraft of choice\n\nBoard / Boat\nPaddle\n\n\nLife Jacket (per Coast Guard regulation\, PFDs must be on the bodies of all kayak & canoe paddlers\, and either worn or strapped to all SUPs) \nLeash (for all SUPs\, prone boards\, surfboards) \nLight / Lantern to put at the front of your watercraft\n\nand/or Functioning Headlamp\n\n\nDrinking water (or tea!)\nFleece and/or neoprene to stay warm (bring an extra cozy fleece for post-paddle)\nA buddy! Or many!

Mike is already carrying his treasured stones around in a satchel – this is serious business. \nDisclaimer: Please rock hunt responsibly – stones may not be taken from within the National Lakeshore. : )  \n  \n \nKICK OFF TIME 2:00pm SHARP with Ella & Mike \nThis is going to be a silly-high-vibe\, extremely ridiculous\, laughter-inducing bracket-style relay race to remember! \nWe recommend teams of five although you could partake with less\, doubling up on segments of the race. \n \nAlright\, here’s the breakdown:  \n1 sack race  / 2 bear crawl & barrel rolling / 3 paddling a surfboard / 4 swimming / 5 running \n \nWhat to Know: \n~ This event is designed for the child at heart but is open to all ages \n~ All teams will be stacked in brackets and put head to head with one other team. \nThe winner will then move on to compete with the winner of the corresponding bracket and so forth. \n~ As it comes down to two teams\, there will be a final challenge to bring the winner across the finish line! \n~ We are encouraging pre-registration so we can build out brackets! \nIf you would like to show up day-of without registering\, please do so at 1:30pm ” )  \n  \nWhat to Bring:  \n~ Your game face!!! \n~ Wear attire that can get wet! This is\, of course\, a Sleeping Bear Surf event! There may be suprises! \n~ You should therefore also bring a change of clothes so you can stick around the rest of the evening! \nSponsored by Sleeping Bear Surf  \n  \n \n \nBring out all your pre-loved\, dusty\, beauteous or beat up sarf gear! \nBoards\, suits\, fins\, board bags… we’re down with it as long as you think it is worthy of finding a new home! \nYou may drop off your goods day of the event\, or Friday (11:00am – 5:00pm) the day prior. We’ll give you a fancy shmancy price tag for you to set the price and then your gear will be placed outside next to the shop\, alley side\, through 5:00pm to sell\, swap\, trade – whatever you fancy. \nIf your goods find a new home you get to pocket 90% of the sale! The remaining 10% goes to support the shop. \n \n  \n \nThe alley way will be closed off and ready for shred! This event is designed to let creativity & classic fun rip wild on boards! \nPig* style games judged by attendees (with the support of our team!) :  \nHippy jump Comp / Slalom / Quarter pipe / Limbo / Manual Comp \n \nSponsored by SBS & Sector 9 Skateboards \n  \n \nBig fun for the whole family (big kids too)! \nTie-Dye booth\, face painting\,  yard games\, pin the pig on the surfboard\, and more! \n  \n\nMusic kicks off at 4:00pm! 4 incredible acts\, with inspiring speakers\, stories & a special screening in between!  \nWe feel so unbelievably lucky to have such remarkable artists joining us for the evening. This is going to be quite the night of musical magic. \nEnjoy a soul-filled\, finger pickin’ set from local legend Patrick Neimisto\, be serenaded by the sugar-sweet voice of Allie Kessel\, sway & groove to the Skinny Limbs and boogie down to The Go Rounds!! \nHoly moly we are soo excited. \nPatrick Niemisto \n \nAllie Kessel \n \nThe Skinny Limbs \n \nThe Go Rounds \n \n  \n  \n \n  \n \n9:30am  Beach Yoga with Jessica Shelton of Sleeping Bear Yoga \n \n  \n \n10:00am  Beach Cleanup with Hannah Tizedes at The Cleanup Club to give a little back to this unbelievably special place! \n \n  \n \n11:00am Enjoy a Sunday “Sip n’ Dip” – a Community Plunge and Goodies from our friends at The Mill \n \n  \n  \n \nReserve your site now at Backyard Burdickville.com!  \n

SUMMARY:Debunking Sharks at Sleeping Bear Surf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an enlightening\, impromptu evening of awareness and action; from Sharks to our Inland Seas\, at Sleeping Bear Surf.\n\n\n \nToo often in surf lessons I ask “what dangers or hazards can you identify here in the Great Lakes?”. Often times\, the answer includes something like “Well\, we don’t have Sharks. Rocks?”.\n\n There is so much to debunk about Great Lakes Water Safety\, (check out our Great Lakes Water Safety page on the website & stay tuned for Water Safety events in the future)\, and there is so much to debunk about our acquired fear of Sharks\, for the health of the Oceans\, and therefore the health our mighty\, tightly woven planet that so very much depends on them.\n\nWe have had the incredible honor of hosting Luca\, Annabel’s best buddy whose friendship formed during a Shark Conservation Program in Fiji five years ago. Now\, Luca is an emerging Marine Biologist\, diving into her Masters\, and also works for Elasmocean\, a German non-profit working to expand human consciousness around the misconceptions\, and utmost importance\, of Sharks.\n\nWe’ll be in the board room at 6:00pm to engage with Luca and learn about Sharks\, and the importance of their protections to a thriving ecosystem as well as the incredible features & traits of sharks that will leave you absolutely mind boggled and craving more.\n\nWhile this will be a formal presentation\, there will be ample opportunity for questions and conversation.\n\nThen\, for those feeling inspired\, we’ll head to the shores of Lake Michigan\, join us for a sunset cleanup to get our hands in the sand and help in the protection of the abundant ecosystem right here in our backyard\, our Mighty Great Lakes.\n  \n~ Images of Luca diving with a Whale Shark just a couple of short weeks ago. ~

SUMMARY:A Once in a Blue Moon Paddle
DESCRIPTION:A Once in a Blue Moon type of Magic. \nThe Skrocki Family is taking this once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity to BREATHE together on the water under this month’s 2nd full moon. But you still have the opportunity August 30th to indulge in an extra special night of connection and community on the water; a Full Moon Paddle under the Blue Moon\, also a SuperMoon. \nWhat to know: \nThe sun sets on August 30th at 8:25pm and the moon will begin to rise at 8:40pm – it should be visible at about 9:30pm. \nWeather: So far it is looking absolutely beautiful – sunshine and clear skies\, with a North/Northeast wind on the big lake\, bringing a slightly chilly evening\, so bring your fleece!\nLocation: While we will not be hosting in person tonight\, we hope you will take our recommendations and set off on a paddle tonight with some new friends! \nHere are two fun options for you! \nPaddle A. Point A to B Paddle *grab a buddy or make a friend & drop a car or a bike*: The Lower Platte River \nTake your time and indulge in the wildlife that surrounds the river bank this time of night. Put in at El Dorado Boat Launch at 8:40pm\, after you’ve watched the sun set and dropped a vehicle) and paddle out to the big lake (~45minutes) guided by lightning bugs. By the time you arrive\, the lake should be nice and calm. The moon will be rising to the west (look right!)\nDoes this sound amazing but you don’t have a car to drop? Make a buddy and get a ride! Make sure to drop your board at El Dorado Park before dropping your vehicle at the end! \nPaddle B. Out and Back Paddle: Little Platte Lake DNR Boat Ramp \nA beautiful\, wildlife packed inland lake that will be nice and protected from the wind. Little Platte is home to many Loons who will likely grant you with song after dark. While you may have a little wind across the lake\, it is so teeny weeny tiny\, and wonderfully shallow that you should have no problem paddling against the breeze that kisses Little Platte. We recommend launching around 8:45pm and paddling toward the center of the lake to watch the moon rise up over the water around 9:30pm. There’s a fantastic dock that makes for the most perfect moon magic picnic\, meditation\, or glass o’ vino sippin’ zone too. Mama Beryl\, friend Anna\, and Ella stayed until the wee hours post-paddle at Little Platte early summer of 2022 soaking in the moon at this special place. \n  \nRequired to Bring:  \n\nNon-motorized watercraft of choice\n\nBoard / Boat\nPaddle\n\n\nLife Jacket (per Coast Guard regulation\, PFDs must be on the bodies of all kayak & canoe paddlers\, and either worn or strapped to all SUPs) \nLeash (for all SUPs\, prone boards\, surfboards) \nLight / Lantern to put at the front of your watercraft\n\nand/or Functioning Headlamp\n\n\n\nRecommend Bringing:  \n\n Drinking water\nSwimwear *if you plan to get wet* (we encourage skinny dippin’ but not so much in this group setting) \nFleece and/or neoprene to stay warm (bring an extra cozy fleece for post-paddle)\nA buddy! Or two! Or the whole family!\nA snack or beverage to pass if you wish to hang around and cheers post-paddle! (We always take our time and bring a snack or bevy to enjoy!)

This will be about a 1.5-2 mile long paddle round trip. SUMMARY:SuperDuperMoon Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Join us July 3rd for a magical night on the water under the big\, bright\, full moon ~ a tradition we our proud to continue to hold in honor of the Full Moon Paddle queen herself; our precious Mama Beryl; as she shines down on us from the stars ~  \nJuly 3rd brings the first SuperMoon of 2023 \nThis SuperMoon is called the Buck SuperMoon named after our “four legged friends” as the antlers of male deer (bucks) are in full-growth mode at this time of the year.  \n  \nWhat to know:\nThe sun sets on July 3rd at 9:34pm and the moon will start to rise at 9:00pm. \nThis gives us the perfect opportunity to enjoy an hour long paddle to North Bar under the light of dusk before we watch the moon rise over trees; serenaded by the sounds of the lively ecosystem of North Bar Lake. We will be ending our paddle with a toast to the moon and goodies on the dune at North Bar ~ where the tradition began. \nDate: Monday\, July 3rd \nLocation: We plan to paddle from the Manning Lighthouse at the north end of the Empire Public Beach 2.5 miles to North Bar Lake. This is the OG full moon paddle route – the section of the lakeshore that brought the full moon paddle tradition to life many many moons ago – a majorly special stretch of coastline. \nTime: Be ready to launch from the Lighthouse at the Empire Public Beach by 8:20pm! \nThere will be a quick orientation and safety briefing at 8:20pm before we enter the water. \n\n\n\nWe will launch no later than 8:30pm so we may enjoy the full colors of sunset from the arms of Lake Michigan and shoot to arrive to North Bar Lake as the moon makes it’s way over the trees and reflects off of the still water of Lake Michigan at the entrance to North Bar Lake.\n\n\n\nBeing that we do like to take our time\, we anticipate that this will be an hour & a half long paddle. \nImportant Details (please read): This can be a round trip or a point A to B paddle – the choice is yours! \n\n\n\nIf you intend to end your paddle at North Bar Lake you will need to drop a vehicle prior to start time. Then we will need to buddy up and carpool\, which is such an awesome way to meet new friends! There will be one shop vehicle that can seat ~ 8 people able to cart folks back to Empire\, however we anticipate many more than 8 attendants\, therefore if you are able to buddy up and drop a vehicle with a friend that would be so grand! If you have room in your vehicle to seat other paddlers\, then you get big humongous bonus points! Let’s work together to make sure all are able to participate & to head home post-paddle with ease.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are to carpool from North Bar Lake you must first drop your water craft at the Empire Public Beach by the lighthouse (don’t worry – we have grand trust in our community\, your gear will be safe 🙂 )\nWe recommend that you plan to drop your watercraft at the Empire Public Beach around 7:30pm\, and then make the ~10 minute drive to North Bar Lake to drop your vehicle. The last ride from Sleeping Bear Surf will be leaving the North Bar Lake parking lot at 8:00pm so that we can get back to the beach\, ready our gear\, use the restroom if necessary\, and be ready for action by 8:20pm. Please take into account the time necessary to pump up boards if you are paddling an inflatable. 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n\nFor those who wish for a longer paddle into the dark of night: It is likely that Ella will be making the return paddle to Empire Beach after a toast and some cheer on the dune at North Bar Lake. After our arrival to North Bar Lake we will allow you to let loose and go your own way. We just ask that please\, for the sake of safety and Ella’s fragile spirit\, pleasey please let Ella or additional organizers know that you are taking off into the night either back to your vehicle\, or returning under the moon to Empire Beach before Ella is ready to depart. The returning group\, if accompanying Ella\, will likely return to Empire Beach by 11:30pm. \n\n\n\nWeather: So far it looks like it is going to be clear skies\, 80 degrees and calm water. Absolutely perfect. We’re crossing our fingers it stays this way\, and we know our Mama will work her magic to ensure it does. \nWhat to bring: \n\nNon-motorized watercraft of choice\n\nBoard / Boat\nPaddle\nLife jacket (per Coast Guard regulation\, PFDs must be on the bodies of all kayak & canoe paddlers\, and either worn or strapped to all SUPs) \nLeash (for all SUPs)\n\n\n Functioning Headlamp\nLight / Lantern to put at the front of your watercraft\n Drinking water\nSwimwear *if you plan to get wet*\nFleece and/or neoprene to stay warm (bring an extra cozy fleece for post-paddle)\nA buddy!\nA snack or beverage to pass if you wish to hang around at North Bar Lake to cheers and cheer under the moon at the conclusion of our paddle.\n\nRSVP Now \n  \nThis event is free\, and we hope that it always will be. DESCRIPTION:  \nShe was held and surrounded by such a profound\, infinite love from us all. As her final breath filled us\, the skies opened\, rain fell\, and Mother Earth wept too.\n\n\n\nHer spirit lives on amidst the elements; zoom-vrooming through the wind\, frolicking in the waves\, boogying amidst the trees\, and spreading her warmth through the flames of an eternal fire. She has brightened the shine of the moon\, the sun\, and the stars. Her dazzling light will continue to guide us\, always.\n  \n \n  \n  \nJoin us Saturday\, November 5th ~ A day dedicated to the grand celebration of an extraordinary life\, and the vibrant\, childlike spirit of Beryl Skrocki. \n\n\nWe hope to see you from 12:00 – 5:00pm onward for a full day of remembrance\, music\, joy\, and laughter. \nLocation: Find us in the heart of Empire\, right in front of Sleeping Bear Surf; we are closing off the street between Lake Street and La Rue\, where a grand tent will stand in its place. \nSleeping Bear Surf will be open as the Beryl experience\, a sanctuary\, for you to feel her everlasting presence\, impact\, and get a glimpse into her extraordinary life\, a life walked with love\, and joy. \n \nDetails: \n12:00 – 1:00 Blake Elliott will be serenading us with her beautiful music while we gather\, squeeze on the Skrocki family\, and take a walk through the Beryl Sanctuary \n1:00 – 3:00 Welcome poem by Anne-Marie Oomen followed by Remembrances of Beryl\, with music by Zack Peterson transitioning us through speakers \n3:00 – 5:00 “Scrumdilyumbo” food by Mel & Fel will be served during which time all will have the opportunity to share a story at the mic\, record it verbally\, or write it on a memory card for the Skrocki family to cherish. \n5:00 Reading of Berylisms by children Ella\, Reiss & Annabel & Closing Poem with Norm Wheeler and Anne-Marie Oomen \n5:30 Continued Celebration at the Empire Public Beach [Lighthouse] – We will gather at the beach for a sunset cheers with champagne from our friends at Mawby Vineyards. If Lake Michigan allows\, there will also most definitely be a plunge for those brave enough to take to a cold\, refreshing cleansing. Bring your swimmin’suit! \n  \n7:00 Due to the crisp air & forecasted wind\, the informal celebration will continue back at the fancy heated tent\, where we will encourage music and story to continue if all are feelin’\, “mow-down” on Mama’s favorite comfort food\, and a big’ bonfire will be blazin’ in the greenspace next to the shop.  \nIn Beryl style\, we will keep the party going until we all decide it is time to slumber. She was never one to miss out on a single moment. \n\nThere will be snacks\, sweets\, and a slew of beverages including King Orchards hot cider\, “barley pops” by Lake Ann Brewery and famous Friendly Tavern root beer available throughout the day. \nPlease RSVP to Beryl’s Grand Celebration of Life \n  \nJoin the family Sunday at 12:00pm for a saunter across the dune in Beryl’s honor. Starting at the Treet Farm\, ending at the Empire Bluff Trail (~3 miles roundtrip). SUMMARY:Earth Day Beach Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of action in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore\, at North Bar Lake. \nWhile North Bar is one of the most pristine inland lakes in the area\, it is also prone to an abundance of trash. North Bar has a fluctuating outlet\, and in the past few years it has failed to connect to Lake Michigan entirely\, therefore during rough days on the big lake\, plastics make their way over the sand into the outlet and trap themselves in the reeds around the inland lake. \nAs the heart of the lakeshore\, North Bar Lake is home to a beautiful\, fragile ecosystem – inhabited by various fish species\, birds\, turtles\, and mammals. Plastic pollution is a threat to that vital ecosystem. \nJoin us at 5:30pm to hear from a Biologist with the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park Service about the importance of the ecosystem within North Bar Lake and stick around to pay tribute by doing a deep clean! \nIn partnership with the Northern Michigan Surfrider Chapter\, FLOW\, Friends of Sleeping Bear\, Beth Price Photography and supported by Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate\, and S’well. We will have heaps of awesome information\, inspiration\, and connections to make all on April 22nd at North Bar Lake. Come hang and let’s do some spring cleanin’! \nWhat to bring: \n\nA National Park Pass for parking at North Bar Lake parking lot & access to the Park — Can be purchased at the National Park Headquarters in Empire.\nGloves! It may be a bit chilly but also gloves are great cleanup companions! Hand sanitizer will be available on site as well.\nBag or Bucket! Old coffee sacks or plastic bags? A big bucket? Bring it! We will have bags and buckets on hand\, but in the case of high attendance yours might be needed!\n\nWhere to meet: \nThe eastern edge of North Bar Lake! Park your vehicle\, or your bike\, and walk on down to the lake! We will be set up with a tent at the end of the walkway. You can’t miss us!\nA sign in sheet\, bags and buckets will be at the tent. Arrive by 5:30pm to hear from organizers and a biologist with the National Park!\nRemember not to forget your park pass! \n  \nBONUS: All participants will receive a coupon for 15% off to Shop Online or In Store at Sleeping Bear Surf! \n  \nRSVP to get event updates\, to ensure you get don’t miss out on discount codes and more! \nWant to participate but can’t make it to North Bar? Share a photo of your backyard cleanup with the hashtag #sbsurfspringclean and we’ll send you the discount code!
